In order to enhance the academic mission and standing of SOM faculty, the Dean’s Office has issued the creation of new programs for the development of faculty as leaders, researchers, clinicians and administrators. Spearheading this effort is Latha Chandran, M.D., M.P.H., in her new role as Associate Dean for Academic and Faculty Affairs.

Dr. Chandran will work with faculty and oversee issues related to faculty administration, orientation, mentoring and career development.

“The primary goals within Academic and Faculty Affairs are to integrate faculty into the Stony Brook culture, nurture faculty to achieve career success, and elevate mentoring as a key mission in all academic departments,” says Dr. Chandran.

Other goals include: providing guidance to faculty as appropriate, ensuring timely faculty review and promotions by establishing systems for periodic review and monitoring, and ensuring faculty and institutional vitality by enhancing faculty involvement in all aspects of the medical center.

If you have ideas, suggestions, or questions on issues related to any of the goals of the Academic and Faculty Affairs Office, please call 638-2005.
