Dean Fine Named Temple University SOM "Alumnus of the Year"

Richard N. Fine, M.D., Dean of the SOM, was named the Henry P. Laughlin 2007 “Alumnus of the Year” by Temple University School of Medicine (TUSM). Honored during his 45th Class Reunion Celebration in October, Dr. Fine is the recipient of the highest honor that TUSM confers on its graduates.

SBUMC Team Receives Prestigeous APSF Patient Safety Award
Rishimani Adsumelli, M.D., M.B.B.S., F.F.A.R.C.S., Associate Professor of Anesthesiology, and co-authors were selected to receive the Ellison Pierce Patient Safety Award for the exhibit, “Maternal Hemorrhage: A Proactive Multidisciplinary Approach to Reduce Mortality and Morbidity.” The award was presented at the annual meeting of the American Society of Anesthesiologists by the Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation (APSF).
January Lung Cancer Symposium Reviews Latest Advances
On Saturday, January 12, 2008, faculty from the Lung Cancer Evaluation Center (LCEC) and associated divisions will hold a symposium titled “Lung Cancer: Update on Screening, Staging and Management.”

SOM Holds First Residency Fair
Hundreds of medical students from Long Island and the Greater New York area gathered at SBUMC on October 26 to participate in the School of Medicine’s first Residency Fair.
Med Students Launch Annual Blood Drive
Shortly after beginning medical school this year, Khalil Savary (Class of 2011) took a wrong turn and found himself near the SBUMC Blood Bank instead of the cafeteria. The mistake resulted in an idea – to start an annual blood drive organized by medical students.
